Malaysian Youths to raise RM1million for Social Good!

Malaysia, 10th October 2018

SimplyGiving launched the Social Giving Revolution at the SCMP China in Southeast Asia Conference in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday 10 Oct. Over the next 12 months, SimplyGiving will be engaging with youths across Malaysia through universities, schools, volunteer and youth groups to be part of this exciting movement to fundraise for causes that they care deeply about – making a social or environmental impact. The goal is to raise RM1million. Malaysian youths will be in the driving seat and will determine which causes each of their fundraising efforts will be channelled to.

SimplyGiving has already seen youths working resourcefully and creatively to raise funds for noble causes such as: Taylor’s University Students raising RM156,414 for the National Cancer Council of Malaysia (MAKNA) by courageously going bald in JOM BOTAK!; interns and volunteers at the IDEAS Academy raising RM80,625 for providing education to refugee children in Malaysia; 11-year old Aiden raising RM15,000 to buy computers for a stateless school in Sabah; and university students at home and abroad taking on very spicy noodle challenges to raise funds to also improve education for underprivileged children.

This giving revolution is already happening. The campaign will drive it forward and demonstrate that, collectively, youths can make a huge impact. The mission is to inspire and motivate more young people in Malaysia to keep on doing good and take action to shape the world that they want to live in.

Through the SimplyGiving crowdfunding platform, youths can set up their personalized fundraising pages easily and share it widely through social media. The beneficiaries are properly verified by SimplyGiving to give donors the confidence that donations made are remitted to the charities in a secure and transparent manner. SimplyGiving makes it easier for people to pay in any one of seventeen currencies, using credit and debit cards, online banking and e-wallets such as Boost. The ease of donating is what is key here. Asking people to transfer money to personal bank accounts is both time-consuming and risky. Using SimplyGiving quickens the process, removes the risk by being clear and transparent, and broadens the audience of potential donors.

Charities that are part of the Social Giving Revolution includes UNICEF, Make-A-Wish Malaysia, MAKNA, Yayasan Chow Kit and many more. Youths are also encouraged to nominate causes that they would like to fundraise for on SimplyGiving.
