Hi,
As a proud Dad of two healthy, happy and energetic children, I'm always amazed at what children are capable of and reminded how important they are to our future. Whilst living in Hong Kong we have been lucky enough to travel to many countries in the Asia region, and we usually get the chance to meet children along the way. Whilst the children are usually happy and smiling, it's obvious that most of them do not have even a fraction of the resources and opportunities available to my kids. Basic rights like a safe living environment, good health care and a nutritious diet are sadly missing. It's hard to see this and not be able to do something to help. But now I have the opportunity to help.
Most of you will know that I have got myself fit over the past few years and now enjoy trail running. Always keen to take on a new challenge I'm moving from 2 legs to 2 wheels, and on Sunday 30th July this year I will - thanks to my employer Prudential - for the first time ever, take part in a cycle event. The 2017 Prudential RideLondon event is a 100 mile (!!) cycle race through the streets of London, down to Surrey and back to London – with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle and raising money for charity. This is a massive challenge for someone who has never ridden a road bike before!!
The beneficiary of this year's race is Save The Children. The money raised by Prudential Asia will go towards supporting Save The Children's Primary Health Care Programme in Laos PDR's Sayabouly Province. Under the programme, more than 1,000 healthcare workers and close to 900 community healthcare workers will be trained to provide healthcare services to around 45,000 children and 107,000 women of reproductive age in Sayabouly Province. Their aim is to close the gap on infant and child survival in Laos PDR.
I'm excited at the prospect of trying something new, of competing in this great race, and at having the opportunity to raise much needed funds for this worthwhile cause, which will literally make the difference between life and death for these vulnerable children.
I'm hoping that you will show your support for me and for Save the Children by making a donation, using the "Donate Now" button below. Your support is very much appreciated by me and by everyone involved in this worthwhile programme.
Thank you very much
Scott
Ps - if you are in London that weekend, please come and support me in person
PPs - if you want to know how I got on in the race, I'll be sure to post it on Strava!!
