Fundraising for:
Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY)
Thanks heaps for visiting my personal fundraising page. On May 31 2015, I will be joining thousands of runners all over the world for the FOURTH time to compete in the Comrades Marathon; the world's oldest and one of the most challenging ultramarathons in South Africa. I was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects muscle and connective tissues on my left wrist at the tender age of 12. Inspired by Terry Fox, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on his right knee, I went on to pursue running after being declared cancer free. And in running, I had hope one day I will be able to unite my running passion together with cancer research. In year 2012, my dream and hope became a reality with Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF) when, for the first time, I ran and conquered the 89.7KM Comrades Marathon at South Africa, the world’s oldest and probably toughest road ultramarathon. In year 2013, I started this fundraising page and will continue to do so for this year. My goal will be to hit RM 8,000 this year. 2015 marks 23 years since I was first diagnosed, 20 years since successfully winning over and 8 years into my running career (hence the fundraising goal). In conjunction with this, I am launching my book just in time for the Comrades Marathon, titled From Cancer to Ultramarathons, chronicling my journey battling and beating cancer, and my passion for running. The book is dedicated to those who are fighting cancer: the patients, as well as the doctors, researchers, organizations and individuals alike, who are supporting the efforts towards building a cancer free world. Surviving cancer is like long distance running. It may seem impossible at first, but with determination and faith, we can reach our goal. I am grateful that I am what I am today, but I will never forget those who are affected by the disease. In uniting my passion of running together with cancer research, I hope to deliver the message that cancer is not a death sentence and hope is certainly out there. This year, once again with CARIF, I will attempt yet again the Comrades Marathon on 31 May 2015, dedicating the “Uphill” battle of the run towards cancer research. Please dig deep and donate, for every little counts in making the lives of those affected by cancer a better one! Join me and CARIF in our efforts to beat cancer. Thank you for your generous giving! Cheers,Frank
