Hi Everyone The season of peace and goodwill to all is approaching again. I'm lucky enough to have everything I could wish for already. However in Hong Kong one in five people lives in poverty, surviving on HK$120, the equivalent of £10 a day or less to meet all their needs. HandsOn Hong Kong, the charity which I head, addresses the needs of the less privileged through volunteerism. Our volunteer programs range from providing after-school tutoring to children from low income families, to visiting the elderly, running playgroups for toddlers and collecting and redistributing left over bread. In 2013, HandsOn Hong Kong and its volunteers will have given more than 12,000 hours of service to over 40 local charities and their beneficiaries. We rely on fundraising to make our work possible. $20,000 (£1700) funds one of our programs for a whole year. $5,000 (£425) funds an educational outing for up to 20 children from low income families, accompanied by our volunteers.
